Público
After El País, Público, launched in 2007, is Spain's second best-selling left wing daily. Layout is spacious and the logo was specially designed by Catalan artist Miquel Barceló. Although it does not publish an in-house editorial, a minimum of two pages is given over to opinion and comment. "Público wants to capture a young readership accustomed to freesheets," explains founder Jaume Roures. Owned by the Mediapro group, which also owns La Sexta, Spain's sixth largest television station, Público has often come out in support of the more radical policies undertaken by the government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. A single editorial team looks after both print and online versions. Content is free, and includes web-only articles. The print version can be downloaded in PDF format the evening before publication.
