Founded in 1888, Het Laatste Nieuws, literally “The Latest News”, is the leading Flemish daily. This liberal newspaper covers chiefly news in brief, local news and sports, and has feminised its editorial staff in recent years under the motto “Whatever matters to women makes men curious”. HLN is published by De Persgroep, which also owns the progressive daily De Morgen.
