The main nationalist daily in Northern Ireland. While being staunchly critical of terrorism and the IRA during the Troubles, Belfast based The Irish News has always espoused a republican position. It voiced support for the Good Friday Peace Agreement in 1998 and has a policy of promoting reconciliation between the loyalist and nationalist communities.

In 1995, the Irish News became the first Northern Irish newspaper to launch a website, before its main loyalist rival, the Belfast Telegraph. The articles of the day are pay per view, and free access is offered to articles from previous days.
