“Polish government is secretly preparing for the euro”, headlines Dziennik Gazeta Prawna. Although no official date has been set yet for the adoption of the common currency, a National Euro Strategic Framework has already been established with a schedule of activities including “legal acts required to replace the zloty with the euro, the necessary changes to IT networks and creation of a price-monitoring system”. According to ministers’ unofficial comments, the operation could be carried out in 2015. However, Warsaw prefers to play it safe and not disclose the planned date after the experience of 2008, when PM Tusk engaged for a 2011 switchover but subsequently had to backtrack on the pledge.
