Since early December, loyalist demonstrators have protested violently against the decision of Belfast Municipal Council, in Northern Ireland, to only fly the British Union flag over the town hall for 17 days per year, a decision that has been welcomed by Republicans.
A total of around 30 civilians and about 40 police officers have been injured during clashes in recent days.
