We are still making progress
According to a study by the EU's Joint Research Centre and the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, China has emitted almost as much carbon dioxide per capita as the European Union – 7.2 tonnes (up 9%) against 7.5 tonnes (down 3%). The main polluter per capita remains the United States with 17.3 tons. China accounts for 29% of overall CO2 emissions in the world, ahead of the United States (16%) and the EU (11%).
