Sicily's governor Raffaele Lombardo
On July 18, Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti approved €400 million of funds for Sicily's regional government, which is saddled with €5 billion debt and on the verge of default, a fact denied by its governor Raffaele Lombardo. Under investigation for alleged links with the mafia, Lombardo declared in May that he would resign, a promise the PM is now asking him to keep.
