After the resignation of President Horst Köhler in 2010 for comments on the war in Afghanistan, and that of Defence Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, in 2011, for a case of plagiarism, the fall of disgraced President Christian Wulff, a Merkel ally, is yet another blow for the German Chancellor.
