Mark Weisbrot
Mark Weisbrot is an American economist, co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research, in Washington, D.C. He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Michigan. He has written numerous research papers on economic policy, especially on Latin America and international economic policy. He is co-author, with Dean Baker, of Social Security: The Phony Crisis (University of Chicago Press, 2000). He is also president of Just Foreign Policy.
With the very existence of the euro is in question, an American economist points out the fundamental difference between the single currency and the EU: while the former is the fruit of a right-wing political project, the latter stems from a project for solidarity between nations. The death of one does not mean the death of another.
