Ahmet Altan
Journalist Ahmet Altan (b. 1950) has worked as a senior editor or as a columnist for several of the best known titles in the Turkish press including Hürriyet, Milliyet and Radikal. An ardent proponent of balanced reporting on sensitive issues, such as the Kurdish question and the Armenian genocide, he is currently editor in chief of the daily Taraf.
Since talks began in 2005, Turkey’s EU membership bid has stalled. For Istanbul daily Taraf, the blame is not only due to reluctant EU states, but should also be shared by a Turkish political elite incapable of acting in the interests of its own people.
