Romanian leaders never miss an opportunity to annoy the Székelys, Romania’s Hungarian minority. The “war over flags” which has recently been waged by the central government and a number of Transylvanian regional municipalities is only the latest episode in Bucharest’s campaign to create tensions with the Hungarians. 
The Hungarian minority region in Romania is to open an office in Brussels. Bucharest sees the move as a Hungarian provocation, the daily Romania Libera as merely an example of European regions wanting more money and more autonomy. 
Hard hit by the crisis and forced to contend with austerity measures and striking workers, Romania is on the verge of bankruptcy. România liberă worries that Russia and China will step in to fill the vacuum left by the country's political leaders and Western investors.
