Geert van Istendael
Geert van Istendael, born in Belgium in 1947, is a writer, translator and former journalist. From 1978 to 1993 he served as correspondent and newscaster for Belgian television. Since 1993 he has been writing novels, poetry and essays. A specialist in Belgian society and political life, he is the author of an essay on Belgian politics entitled “The Belgian Labyrinth”.
Flemish, Walloon, or Belgian? Or European, perhaps? To the writer Geert van Istendael, King Albert II’s subjects’ identity overload is not a handicap. On the contrary: it might even be an inspiration to other peoples in this changing world.
