Tomas Avenarius
Tomas Avenarius, a staffer at the Süddeutsche Zeitung since 1990, is currently one of its Middle East correspondents. He writes on the Muslim world and has covered a great many crises. In 2002 he published Mehr Gottesfurcht als Allah brauchen kann. Afghanische Eindrücke (More Godliness than Allah Needs: Afghan Impressions).

The Western community have got to stop reducing Afghanistan to a domestic policy issue and deluding themselves and the public, writes the Süddeutsche Zeitung: viz. that their objectives can be achieved, that they can go home soon and, above all, that there will be a happy end in Afghanistan.
