Jurica Pavičić
Croatian author, film critic, screenwriter and journalist Jurica Pavičić (b. 1965) is a contributor to several publications including Jutarnji list, Slobodna Dalmacija and Vijenac. He has received several awards for his Jutarnji list column Vijesti iz Liliput ("News from Lilliput"), in which he dissects Croatian society, its politics and culture. His novel Ovce od gipsa ("Sheep in Plaster" – 1997), on war crimes in Croatia, was made into a film under entitled Svjedoci (The Witnesses).
In a phenomenon that has emerged in cities as diverse as Skopje, Niš and Split, the states of the former Yugoslavia are been swept by a craze for megalomaniac monuments. Croatian writer Jurica Pavicic examines the vogue for these nationalist monstrosities, and concludes their goal is to rewrite history.
