Several European governments are trying to resell millions of doses of swine flu vaccine. So was the threat exaggerated after all? The press takes the authorities to task.
Sold on the Web and in “smartshops” as herbs or incense, Spice is catching on among cannabis enthusiasts. It contains synthetic cannabinoids, which worries the European health watchdogs. But substances of this sort are difficult to detect and, consequently, to prohibit, notes Libération.
As swine flu goes global, the developing world is gearing up to produce cheaper generic versions of Tamiflu. Roche, the makers of the drug, however, is resisting a move that could save hundreds of thousands of lives. According to Johann Hari in the Independent, it is receiving backing from the unlikeliest of quarters - the World Health Organisation.
In Greece, which has the highest rate of tobacco consumption in Europe, a law banning smoking in public buildings officially comes into force July 1st. The ban is a subject of controversy — all the more so because the Ministry of Health has yet to publish a decree on the venues concerned and the conditions under which the law will be applied.
