"You’ve never experienced a city like this one before,” they say. Berlin is the European city of choice for Israelis. Above and beyond bitter remembrances of expulsion and extermination, what they seek there now is, first and foremost, fun. 
Greeks are cheats who aren’t worth bailing out. Germans should pay Greece’s way out of the morass because the Nazis plundered the country. A war of words is raging between two countries that had hitherto succeeded in surmounting the hurdles of history, complains Süddeutsche Zeitung. 
Eastern Germans have too been too busy adapting to a new society to settle their accounts with the former German Democratic Republic. And upholding the myth of reunification will only serve to stifle any real debate, comments the writer Thomas Brussig. 
The big issues have been given a wide berth in the campaign for Germany’s general elections on 27 September. It’s a shame the big parties are so afraid of unsettling the electorate, bemoans the novelist Elke Schmitter. After all, politics is also about trying to change the world we live in.
